Alungal Farms was being established by Mr. A V Puruthothama Kamath in the year 1996. This Farm spread over an Acre & Half is right in the midst of the hectic area of Thammanam houses a wide range of Medicinal & Fruit Plants, some of which are highly medicinal and Academic reserves and some that are of endangered ones.
At Alungal Farms Mr. Kamath is preserving nearly 2000 varieties of Plants both Medicinal & Fruit plants, what began as an effort to protect some of the endangered plants in a small way turned out to be a passion for this former Banker.
Alungal Farms is also a regular place for Botany & Ayurveda Students for their project & reference purposes. These efforts have been widely applauded and won several awards. Kerala Bio-diversity Award 2013 & Vanamithra Award by Kerala Forest Department are some of those appreciations that he received.
